Yesterday I had the opportunity to hop off the bike just in time to watch a little baseball!
I still can’t really wrap my mind around it but listen to this: Our cross country bike trip, which left Amelia Island, FL on May 30, just so happened to take us to Omaha, Nebraska on June 30th.
Why does that matter? Well, I’m from Starkville, home of Mississippi State University. Until yesterday, we had never won a national championship in any sport. My dad has taught at the university for 30 years — my whole life — so my family and I are diehard fans.
Yesterday Mississippi State just so happened to face Vanderbilt in the winner-take-all game 3 of the College World Series. And I got to be there with my dad and my brother and take it all in. Watching my dad’s face after we got the last out is a moment I will cherish forever.
And now I can tell everyone that I rode my bike 1,632 miles just to watch Mississippi State win our first national championship! Hail State!
