BECKY MITCHELL: A dusty day of thankful service

A dusty day of thankful service
September 15, 2026

By Becky Mitchell

There was something in the air today. And our hair, clothes, skin and shoes. It was our first dusty day: the mudding drywall being sanded to become a fine white dust.

For many of the group, it was one we came in the mindset to do. We covered as much of ourselves as possible and sanded, sanded, sanded.

We’re mindful to think of the house like we would our own, treating each project with care for the best of the homeowner. Everyone on the trip has come with a mindset to serve, to help people have a decent place to live.

The people here include Archie and his family. In the few moments we spent with Archie it is clear he is humble and thankful.

Thank you Fuller Center Disaster Rebuilders for your commitment to the people of western North Carolina.
