Rolling along the rolling hills of Connecticut

By Bob Wenger

Let me introduce myself,  my name is Bob Wenger and I’m from a small town in eastern Pa called Terre Hill. This is my 4th Fuller Center Bike Adventure.

I found out about FCBA when I Googled bike trip across the US with doing mission work. FCBA was fourth from the top. FCBA had everything I was looking for. The trip was all planned.

Today’s ride started from Church on a Rock that we stayed at last in New Haven, Conn.
Our destination for today was 81 miles away in a community called Stafford Springs, Conn.
After riding on the streets for 2 blocks we were able to ride on a bike trail that was nicely shaded from the trees on both sides. The trail was used as a towpath when the canal was operating in its former glory days.

As a longtime bike rider it is rewarding to see communities repurposing not only towpaths but railroad beds for trails that are no longer used for bikers, walkers, runners and some allow horses.

After spending a couple of hours on the bike trails we excited and did the remainder of the day on the backroads of Connecticut which were gently rolling roads till the last 10 miles which had some challenging hills. The cyclists were rewarded though with a 2.5-mile downhill into Stafford Springs.

If you are looking to do a bike trip check out the FCBA to see what they have to offer. They are well planned, organized and take time to take a day off to fix up homes on the bike trips.
