Long ride to Denali
August 27, 2025

By Diane Buckley-Maidt

Wednesday, August 27, was our longest ride day on our Alaska bike adventure, 103 miles. We started the day off from Denali State Park with a bit of drizzle and ended the day at Denali National Park with a little sunshine. We had over 4,440 feet of elevation gain.

It had rained the night before and the ground was still wet while we were preparing to head out. At least some of us started out with dry shoes because we had dried them out the night before over the hot fire by our campsite. Our support team had umbrellas to try to keep themselves and our snacks dry at the rest stops.  Between the distance and the rain, it was a challenging ride day and several riders decided to ride in the van.

Although overcast much of the day, we did get some glimpses of the surrounding beautiful mountains. Unfortunately, there were no Denali views. At the last rest stop, there was a beautiful rainbow arching over the van and trailer as it was pulling out.
