A great day for sweeping
Feb. 28, 2023

By Diane Bies

Neil Mullikin, our ride leader, asked me to sweep with him this morning. Of course I said yes. That made for a great day of riding at the rear of the pack making sure all the riders get in safely.

The route took us from Pascagoula, MS to Bay St. Louis, MS by way of a wide sidewalk running along the beach side of the roadway.

It was a perfect weather day with plenty of sunshine. The gulf was a lovely distraction as we rode along. When we came in to the second rest stop we were greeted by some riders from the Bay Rollers Bicycle Club. David Ricker, one of our riders is a member of their club.

One of the riders who met us was Patrick O’Connor who used to live in Evansville and cycled with several people I know and ride with still. Patrick produced an amazing documentary on the adoption of a new Mississippi state flag, “Look Away Look Away”. I had watched it recently so it was fun to put a face with the video. It is a great and informative film.

Upon arrival at St. Rose De Lima Catholic Church we were greeted by Myron Labat, president of the Bay Rollers, and lots of pizza for our lunch. That evening we went into town for dinner. It was such a cute town with great little restaurants around. We enjoyed exploring and partaking of the local cuisine.

After dinner, when everyone made it back to the church, we had a cake in honor of Larry Jablonski’s birthday. It was a great ending to a wonderful day. We have a really special group of people on this ride and a really nice route we are following.
