Well we had our first spot of rain today. Actually, we had a huge amount of rain for most of the ride. But thankfully it was warm so I didn’t need my rain jacket. We just got very wet. Then the sun cane out for the last 20 miles or so. Nice!
We saw several deer early this morning. They were still active because it was gray and sort of cool. We saw some armadillo road kill and some live turtles on the road and bike path. All in all, it was a beautiful day! We heard a bit of thunder but saw no lightning. Only two of the twelve had flats today. That’s really good considering all the rain, debris, and sand on the roadway.
The wildflowers are still around us in abundance. I have really enjoyed them this year. The vegetation has started to change a bit. It will change so much as the trip progresses across the USA.
We lost several riders over the weekend but added two FCBA veterans. Today Karl Welsher came in to greet us as we are in his town of Columbus. He delivered fresh veggies from Koinania and cookies and jams. He also gave each rider some potpourri he made from the roses in his garden. So special!
Our hosts for the evening made a wonderful healthy meal for us complete with lemon bars and brownies for dessert. Yum!
We continue to be blessed by the generosity of others along this path. So many people are offering up prayers for us too. It is so comforting to know God is watching over our journey.
Tomorrow is a short bike ride day with a construction project in the afternoon. Early to bed tonight!!! Early to rise tomorrow.
