Karen Bacot: Sometimes a feast is called for
March 1, 2022

Happy Fat Tuesday!

We had a feast yesterday, thanks to the fine people, Bruce & Janice; lunch soup and dinner stew were amazing. This morning, Pastor Tim of Dauphin Island United Methodist Church cooked us a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs, grits, smoke sausage, and homemade biscuits.

It was an interesting night as people tried to get a good night’s sleep on the church pew or on the floor between. The stained glass in the church was beautiful.

Today, March 1, we were blessed with another sunny day with headwinds (ugh) as we crossed the bridge from the Dauphin Island. The 42-mile route made for an “easy” day as we headed into Mississippi to arrive at First Union United Methodist Church in Pascagoula, MS (birthplace of Jimmy Buffett). We were greeted by friendly folks from the church, Hannah, Ms. Dee and her husband. They are currently cooking us dinner … just so thankful for all these people!

Four flats today, but no injuries — Yay! Some of us had time to walk for oyster po-boys at Bozo’s —delicious! Others went for ice cream or other activities.

Tonight, we are able to spread out into several rooms in hopes of a good night’s sleep for tomorrow’s 84-mile ride. Grateful for God’s continued guidance and providence and for a fairly uneventful day. It was a gorgeous day with time to relax and explore the town by foot in the afternoon.

I can’t say enough how wonderful it is to see and get the support of so many churches and local people — God working through others. It’s a beautiful thing, brings joy to the heart.

Please pray for a safe travel day tomorrow. Thanks to all our support people and most of all, our Almighty Father.
