Build Day No. 2: Faith in Action
March 14, 2023

By Larry Jablonski

On Thursday morning we were blessed to have a big breakfast prepared by Oliver Baptist Church staff. We also met the energetic students from Northwestern College, Orange City, Iowa who were doing a work spring break helping with Fuller Center relief efforts.

Our construction manager, Bud explained the tasks he hoped to work on that day. We drove to Barbara’s house that was being updated and rehabbed. The tasks to be completed were: yard cleanup at several homes, install kitchen cabinets, paint and install trim, flooring install, chalking the trim and installing a kitchen backsplash at another home.

While working at the 2 homes we were blessed to have the homeowners stop by to thank the workers. Barbara talked about growing up in the home and was so excited to see the improvements. Gerald stopped by and talked about how this replacement home for his other home previously damaged in a hurricane was so much better. He shared his 17 year old granddaughter had never her own bedroom and was so excited to soon have one.

While at Barbara’s  home a local tv station — see the report from KPLC-TV here — came and interviewed Alice and Neil (Neil must not have combed his hair for his comments were edited out!).

Many times while on the great Gulf Coast ride people would ask us “What is Faith in Action?” We now have one more day to share with them. By the way, all tasks assigned at the beginning of the day were completed by the awesome Fuller volunteers!
