A long stretch through Alligator Alley
January 18, 2023

By Nancy Fish

Today was the longest day of the second week of the Tour de Florida: 103.5 miles from Marco Island to Homestead across Alligator Alley.

I was nervous about this ride since the longest ride I had ever done was the 60 miles completed yesterday. There was a strong headwind yesterday, but I was able to complete it in 6.5 hours.

I started today well, but by mile 20 I was totally exhausted and opted to ride in the van and help out at the rest stops. Today I learned that just riding your bike every day is not enough for this challenge. In the future I will train by riding faster and longer.

The best part of this day was feeling loved, supported, and cared for by the other riders. They are amazing. Many of them completed the ride and shared their stories of alligators, boa constrictor, and other sights along the way. It was a fantastic day!
