Beginning the final week
July 29, 2024

By Paul Richards

After a nice rest day in Roanoke yesterday, it was time to begin our final week of this cross-country journey.

This morning, we were treated to a delicious breakfast from our host church. We had a spread of eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, and fruit. Great fuel for the long day and climbing ahead.

Today started out cloudy and overcast, with a slight chance of rain. We left Roanoke to make our way to the Blue Ridge Parkway. As per usual on this ride, we came across a road closed sign. We decided to push on, but found the road was impassable. We knew the parkway was close, so instead of backtracking to town, we decided to take a little hike through the woods! This actually ended up cutting some miles and climbing off the ride! It’s all part of the adventure!

Once we got on the Parkway, we were treated to some stunning views of the mountains and rivers. We were so fortunate to have hardly any traffic on the parkway and it almost felt like we had the road to ourselves. The overcast sky and slight drizzle off and on today in addition to the amazing views made for a very memorable ride as we wrap up this amazing adventure.
