Detours and continued generosity

Today we started in the small town of Doniphan, MO on our way to New Madrid, MO.

Our morning devotional began with a story about a cyclist who had to ask for directions because of a detour due to the bridge being out. The devotional then talked about how Jesus makes the claim that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life and that He is the only way to the Father/God. The challenge was that if these claims are true we would do well to follow Jesus’ directions in our lives.

The first section of the ride went smoothly. Then we started the second section. The sign said Detour Ahead. Sure enough the road was closed due to construction on the bridge. I remembered our devotional and thought maybe God gave us a heads up. The cyclists had to ride down 7 miles on loose gravel road. It was challenging and I wound up taking a couple of riders over the gravel to the next paved section. Everyone arrived in New Madrid tired and hot but safely.

First Baptist Church in New Madrid welcomed us with a wonderful meal and arranged for showers nearby! I continue to be reminded of God’s goodness and faithfulness as I witness the generosity of the churches that host us.
