We woke up at 7 a.m. Rain has ceased, and wind has died down. Praise God! First Presbyterian Church was a maze of doors and rooms. Got lost a few times. It is almost 200 years old, after all.
Joined Sunday school with the church. Title of their study book was “Hope.” Lesson was about a runner. So much of it was applicable to bicyclists. “Beginning runners focus on the pain. Intermediate riders focus on the mileage. Advanced riders focus on the technique.” I think I focus on all three while I ride. When the going gets tough where do you put your focus?
We joined church service with the congregation in a beautiful grand majestic church similar to one I grew up in. Stained glass windows surrounded us. It was Pentecost Sunday the Christian festival celebrating the descent of the Holy Spirit on the disciples of Jesus after his Ascension, held on the seventh Sunday after Easter. They confirmed 5 young people and we joined in their confirmation celebration lunch after service.
At about 12 miles we discovered a sign that said bridge out! Scouts were sent ahead to find out if we might still be able to bike across. Luckily we were able to go onward! And what a beautiful ride it was. We had a great long fast stretch over the water and into South Carolina. State #2!
We ended the day at Okatie Baptist Church where they provided a great potluck with the congregation. Another opportunity to sing Happy Birthday.
