Frederick Buechner spoke of a person’s calling as “being the place where one’s deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.”
This quote comes to mind when I think of the 1,833 cyclists who have ridden in a Fuller Center Bike Adventure since its inception in 2008.
What a gift to be part of a team who helps build and rehab homes for people who need a hand (one of the hungers in the world)!
What a gift to have so very much fun while doing it (gladness)!
This morning we circled up in Nashville, TN.
This is how all Fuller Center rides begin. We receive plans for the day and have a devotion.
Then we have a round of Oyée’s! Oyée is a word that Millard and Linda Fuller, The Fuller Center’s founders, learned when they were in the Congo. It is a way to say “amen” and “thank you”. \
This morning you would have heard something like, “Holy Trinity Lutheran Church has put in so much work to organize our visit and welcome us well!”
And we raised our right arms and called out together, “Oyée!”
Then we went through the list of people and moments for which we are thankful and want to celebrate.
It was time to roll out to the Natchez Trace!
