Friday June 3 was a perfect day for our second build. The skies had emptied themselves yesterday but still partial clouds and a high of 86 with a breeze. Jodi, the head of Leland’s Fuller Center, came to Emmanuel Baptist at 7:30 a.m. to give us the game plan.
Another ride in the party bus and we were met by the cuties of Leland’s Girl Scout Troop 33243, who later provided us with a much appreciated snack break.
We split into three teams, I was on Team Can Sort. Everyone in town saves their cans for Fuller whose last haul to the recycler netted $1K. Another group sorted donated siding in a warehouse while the skilled among us hung windows and doors in a newly constructed 1100 sq ft, 3-bedroom home.
Fuller managed to buy up a whole block and has built 34 homes in this town of 4,000 people. Our reward was barbecue lunch but mostly knowing that our morning’s work would make life a bit better for a family or two or three.
