In Church All Day

Written by: David Aderholdt, Blue Ride
Today’s ride was a sweet 100 miler with almost a mile of climbing added in to spice things up! Woohoo! We came to ride! The spectacular views in Heber with snow on the peaks to the South were inspiring as we began our ride this morning. We were in the church of God today, the chapel of nature, all made with His hands, crafted from His understanding of beauty and all that is good. Never have folks felt closer to Him than when in the presence of such majesty that He Himself made. We had our team church service last night because we knew we would be riding all day, but the ride itself was spiritual.

Something Special

Written by: Julio Galindo, Blue Ride

Riding with the Fuller Center is something very special. As you are out on the road you look up at the heavens and know you are being guided and when you look all around, you get to see and experience the true beauty of nature. The money raised goes towards a great cause and having build days brings the entire experience full circle. The best thing for me personally is that I get to share all this with my wife and enjoy today, our 3rd wedding anniversary, with 100 miles.

Fly Over States

Written by: Jeff Lamb, Blue Ride

The 2012 single, Fly Over States by Jason Aldean, is about 2 men flying across the United States and discussing who would want to live in the land they are seeing below. They reference the land below as the “middle of nowhere”. The song goes on to say that these men have never been to these places or met the people who live and work in these towns, and if they had, they would “understand why God made those fly over states.” Riding through these states I’ve experienced many of the scenes the song describes. Some of these include: water colored painted sky, freedom of the wind and sun on my face, and the breathe of all the open space. I am so thankful for the opportunity and ability to experience these things. I have met so many amazing, kind and generous people that you will never see or hear about in the media, but they do exist in God’s amazing fly over states.

The Snake River Valley

Written by: Matthew Bolz-Weber, Blue Ride

The story is told that when Brigham Young first saw the Great Salt Lake valley, he looked out over what was then a barren, dry desert and declared, “This is the right place.” It’s also reported that he envisioned a fertile valley populated by people working the land in order to feed their families.Continue reading→

God’s Mercy

Written by: Jennifer Wells, Blue Ride
Yesterday completes the second week of our bike and build experience. From Kellogg, ID to West Yellowstone, MT., 424 miles for the week. We had 6 days of cycling with headwind every day and some tail wind. Yesterday was the worst for the headwind. We rode 63 miles in 15-22 mph headwind and 13 miles with a tailwind. You know it is a tough day for riding when you are going downhill, pedaling and can only get up to 10-12 mph. The locals in West Yellowstone told us we were lucky that we didn’t ride in one day last week as they had 50 mph winds!

A Catalyst for Minimalism

Written by: Lesly Jones, Blue Ride
Each year I like to choose an organization to volunteer my time, and often my money. This year, I chose the Fuller Center for Housing, by registering for the Fuller Center Bicycle Adventure. The plan is to ride my bike 3,500 miles across the country starting in Seattle, WA and finishing on the East Coast in Washington, DC, my current home!

Perception vs. Reality

Written by: Pui-Sun Lee, Blue Ride

I remember back in April, when I first learned about this ride, and quite a few people thought that I was crazy. They told me that doing these things is not normal and that I didn’t have time to prepare. Fast forward to today, just shy of 2 weeks in, and I have already enjoyed great rides, and more importantly the great companionship far exceeding my perception. I could not be more happier to have made this decision to join the Fuller Center ride. I am looking forward to the adventures together!!!

Teacher Outside Her Classroom

Written by: Stephany Escalante-Galindo, Blue Ride

I’m a middle school teacher from Los Angeles, California. In the middle school where I teach life science, we have an overarching school mission based on social justice. We expose students to opportunities to feel their power as agents of change. Yeah, I teach science, but I’m also teaching students to feel the power of their own activism.Continue reading→

A Peaceful Day’s Ride

Written by: Diane Buckley-Maidt, Blue Ride

Today started with delicious banana smoothies made by Liz on the breakfast chore team – yum! As we crossed the pedestrian bridge heading out of Missoula the air was cool and crisp. The last 20 miles into Philipsburg was dry and hot. We rode mostly on scenic back roads and a few segments along I-90. Coming off one of the I-90 exits onto a back road we took a deep breath and drank in the peace and quiet. We rode much of the way along a meandering stream with beautiful meadows and mountain vistas. As we crested a hill close to Philipsburg we saw beautiful snow capped peaks in the distance. Philipsburg is a thriving, quaint little tourist town.

On Choosing Joy

Written by: Joel Derksen, Blue Ride

Day 13 of our journey had us continuing our ride through Montana, 86 miles from the small Western tourist town of Philipsburg, to the booming metropolis of Whitehall. We started out with a steep climb, and by the end of it I found myself riding alone, as the others in my group had all either pulled ahead or fallen back.Continue reading→
