Today is Tuesday and day 11 of our bike adventure. We rode 48 miles from Opelousas to Oakdale, La. The weather was great but the roads were mostly bumpy.
On Thursday morning we were blessed to have a big breakfast prepared by Oliver Baptist Church staff. We also met the energetic students from Northwestern College, Orange City, Iowa who were doing a work spring break helping with Fuller Center relief efforts.
Neil Mullikin, our ride leader, asked me to sweep with him this morning. Of course I said yes. That made for a great day of riding at the rear of the pack making sure all the riders get in safely.
The Mighty Mississippi, the second longest river in the United States, is a river full of history and folklore and figured prominently on our ride today.
Today is Sunday and no riding today. I found a Waffle House close by and walked to it for breakfast and then picked up some donuts for the group on my way back. Most everyone ate our regular breakfast stuff, but a few others did end up going to Waffle House too.
Being rather new to the Fuller Center Bike Adventure family, today was my first “build day.” I’d heard from others that build days can be a lot of physical work but also quite emotional as we interact with those residing in Fuller Center homes.
