East Coast
May 26 - June 25, 2023

Amazing! Cyclists will journey up the Atlantic Coast viewing beaches, working on homes, and experiencing some of the greatest sights our East Coast has to offer.

Each segment on this route truly has its own appeal, with each week offering unique natural beauty and at least one volunteer build day. Those joining for the whole way across 13 states will have a journey to be remembered forever.

We’ll be traveling from the south to north to take advantage of the warmth of the south in early summer and the relative cool of New England as summer progresses.

After departing from Tybee Island, a significant portion of this ride will follow the East Coast Greenway and other established routes up through classic southern towns like Savannah, Charleston, and Wilmington. From Virginia Beach we’ll use a shuttle to help us journey through the elusive “Delmarva,” the peninsula east of the Chesapeake Bay, before catching a ferry to continue up near the Jersey Shore and  later another ferry past the Statue of Liberty into New York City.

The final week will feature New England with its rich history and architecture. It promises to be full of vibrant towns, colorful seaboard homes, and where some of our earliest U.S. history can be found.

Tybee Island GA still has one of the nations oldest working lighthouses.  A fitting place to start as we begin our journey north.

Day 1 will begin with orientation in Tybee Island.  As we will familiarize ourselves with other riders and group riding, we will have a short group ride to Savannah, GA.  Savannah is known for its antebellum homes and and manicured parks.  Ride into the town where many streets are lined with trees covered with Spanish moss.

The ride will continue through the week largely following the East Coast Greenway, and our destination for the week is Wilmington, North Carolina.

Arrival Airport- (SAV) Savannah GA.

Departure Airport- (ILM) Wilmington International Airport.

Hello, Segment 2! Once segment riders have arrived, we’ll host our weekly team meeting on Sunday night. We will both recap the week’s ride, and plan for the week ahead.

After exploring Wilmington Beach over the weekend, a town with surf, sand, and a historic battleship, you will continue the journey north.

This week will include a build in Plymouth North Carolina, and a weekend arrival on Virginia Beach.  Enjoy the waters of the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic.

Did you know, there is a park in Virginia Beach that notes the place where the Jamestown colonists landed?  Join us for an opportunity to see it for yourself.

Arrival- (ILM) Wilmington International Airport

Departure- Norfolk Virginia Airport- (ORF).

Once segment riders have arrived, we’ll host our weekly team meeting on Sunday night. The next morning we will start by shuttling our riders safely over the Chesapeake Bay on US-13, which will then begin our journey through Delmarva — the peninsula east of Washington, D.C. that consists of parts of Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia.

After a build in Lewes mid-week, we’ll catch a ferry across the Delaware Bay and continue into New Jersey. Finally, we’ll have our big entrance to the Big Apple as we take a Ferry past the Statue of Liberty and ride through Manhattan to our destination for the week near NYC, where we will hold another build and have a Sunday off day.

Arrival- (ORF) Norfolk Virginia Airport

Departure- (LGA)- New York LaGuardia

Segment 4 – The last segment brings you from New Rochelle, NY on the outskirts of New York City to Portland, ME.  Enjoy riding through the beautiful towns of New England in the summer.  For those who have the goal to ride every state, you can knock out 6 this week, including the elusive Rhode Island!  Plus, cap off your week and the event by serving with a family in Windham, Maine near the big finish in Portland.

Some highlights along the way include visiting Sebago Lake, the lighthouse in Portland, and an amazing beach at the end.
