Portland, ME to Tabernacle, NJ
Kicking off the ride with a bang, we will meet in Portland, ME. Past riders will remember this rocky coastline town as the ending point of our 2015 ride. Featuring the Portland Head-Light, the oldest lighthouse in Maine, and an eclectic downtown area, your first two days will surely not leave you for want!
Leaving Portland, we will head immediately to Portsmouth, NH, crossing our first of six state lines. This day’s route will feature Cape Elizabeth and Kennebunk, two of Maine’s popular tourist destinations. Lucky for you, we have an off day in the Portsmouth, so feel free to explore the beautiful downtown and coastal areas.
From Portsmouth we head across the Massachusetts border and into Lawrence, MA. In case you were worried we may be in a state for longer than one night, we went ahead and routed into Burrillville, RI for our 4th day. Monday will give you a taste of the country’s smallest state.
By crossing into Connecticut the next morning, we enter into our fifth state! Enjoy rolling through hills and history in eastern CT before stopping in Meriden for the night. The next morning, we will venture south and east towards NYC, stopping just short in Mt. Vernon, NY.
Day seven leads us into New Jersey, via the Big Apple. this ride day is very short, and we will use the free time to explore sights and sounds of the big city before taking a ferry past the Statue of Liberty and on to New Jersey.
After the night in Middletown, we wrap up Segment 1 in Tabernacle, NJ, where we will have our first build day with the Fuller Center for Housing in the New Jersey Pines. A well-deserved day of rest wraps up this segment before we set our sights on Raleigh, NC!
