West Coast

The West Coast ride promises beautiful evergreens, barking sea lions, towering redwood trees, and stunning views of the Pacific Ocean as it meets the rugged coast. Our journey starts in Seattle and heads south through Coos Bay in Oregon, Redwoods State Park in California, over the Golden Gate Bridge, and ending in San Diego, CA. Mountainous coastlines offer about 50,000+ feet of climbing over the four weeks as we work our way through some of the country’s most beautiful scenery!

4 Weeks to Choose From!

Can’t join us for the full four week coast ride? Pick your favorite segments and join us for as long as you can! Click the segment headings below to view details and day-by-day schedules.

The deep blue waters of the Puget Sound will gladly welcome you to Seattle as we begin our tour of the West Coast! After arriving in Seattle on the 11th, we will host an orientation for all riders followed by a twenty mile training ride to get ourselves accustomed to riding together. Midweek we will pedal largely westward to Naselle, WA, seated just North of the Columbia River, which serves as Washington state’s southern border. Our Washington goodbye gives way to an Oregon welcome, passing through many small coastal towns.

The longest riding day of Segment 1 is 97 miles into North Bend, OR, which leaves for shorter ride into our endpoint of Port Orford, OR. Port Orford is nestled just north of a great series of coves and hiking paths which make up Port Orford Heads State Park, offering yet another beautiful vista of pine trees meeting rugged shoreline to entertain us as we indulge in our first off day and prepare for Segment 2!

Segment 2 is a week full of varied scenery, and plenty of miles. Those looking to ride through Redwood forests and along dramatic coastlines will find just what the doctor ordered! Our first ride day will take us down Highway 101 and across our second state line into Crescent City, CA.  This will be a great first stop in California, and a great opportunity to see some of nature’s largest creations. This segment will give us a great view of the amazing Redwood forests as we traverse 31 miles on Avenue of the Giants.

The last ride day into San Francisco will include crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, and be short enough to enjoy all that the city has to offer.

On our first Bike Day of this week, we will rejoin Highway 1, and squiggle down the coastline to Santa Cruz. This iconic bike town is home to its namesake bike manufacturer, and some beautiful south-facing beach. Wednesday features the sole century ride of this trip into Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA. The final ride day this week will take us into Santa Barbara, where we will participate in a service project with a similar local nonprofit on Saturday morning. As for Sunday, Santa Barbara hosts a wide array of Off Day activities. Whether you choose to visit an old mission, a beach, a botanical garden, or the Santa Barbara Zoo, enjoy the well-deserved rest day!

After a glorious off day spent soaking in lovely Santa Barbara, we will kick off our final segment with 64 miles through the infamous Malibu, CA. Surrounded by the trio of Zuma, Trancas, and Solstice canyons, Malibu has more natural beauty to offer than just beach. Seventy more miles will lead us to Huntington Beach, CA, passing through Los Angeles on the way. While in Huntington Beach, indulge in the excellent surfing the 9.5 mile stretch of beach has to offer, or explore the vibrant downtown, including a well-known art center during a bonus Off Day. Our official last day will surely be emotional as we wrap up with a neat 40 miles into San Diego…relish the moments as you complete your West Coast journey!
